Your tummy tuck journey will begin with an extensive consultation process, during which you will discuss your aesthetic goals with Dr. Guttikonda. We tailor all body contouring procedures to meet your specific wants and desires. The best procedure will target your problem areas and work to correct them. Providing pictures of your goal body shape can help Dr. Guttikonda better understand your wishes and help create a plan that is tailored to you.
Your natural body shape will play a significant role in crafting the best tummy tuck plan for you. Dr. Guttikonda will perform a physical examination during your consultation, which evaluates your body to help him determine your needs. We assess the areas of skin sagging, identify deposits of fat, and determine if you have abdominal laxity. Our range of tummy tuck procedures is tailored to address your specific body needs. Each patient comes to Dr. Guttikonda with unique needs and aesthetic goals. During the consultation, we will work to devise a plan that meets you on both fronts.
Excess skin accumulation along the abdomen can contribute to a flabby abdominal appearance. During your tummy tuck, Dr. Guttikonda trims away the redundant folds of skin and repositions what remains for a tighter contour.
Weak or separated abdominal muscles can leave you with an unattractive abdominal pooch. This is especially common in women following pregnancy or significant weight loss. Dr. Guttikonda uses an abdominal corset technique to tighten and tone the midsection.
Stretch marks are common to have following pregnancy or after weight loss. You may find that they detract from your beautiful skin. Tummy tuck surgery can diminish the appearance of stretch marks for a smoother silhouette.
Unwanted deposits of fat can obscure the definition and shape of your abdominal area. The Dr. Guttikonda difference involves combining tumescent liposuction with your tummy tuck to best contour the area and give you the best results.
The typical recovery period lasts between two and three days. You should be able to return to work a week after your surgery. Some patients may experience initial bruising and swelling of their treatment area(s). You should use a compression garment throughout your recovery, and you can resume more vigorous activities after two weeks. However, you shouldn’t perform any activity that has not been cleared by Dr. Guttikonda.
The severity of postoperative scarring will vary among patients depending on their body’s natural healing factors. Incision location and length can affect the visibility of scarring. Dr. Guttikonda always provides a unique technique using embrace® scar therapy followed by bioCorneum® products that will help minimize scars. Scar therapy surgical packages are available. Any scarring that does develop is likely to fade over time.
There may be some initial postoperative discomfort associated with swelling, and the pain should only last several days, which can be controlled with oral medication. Dr. Guttikonda recommends EXPAREL®, a slow-releasing numbing medication for tummy tuck patients, especially for those who undergo added muscle work. EXPAREL® is injected at the time of surgery to keep the area numb and much more comfortable for up to three days. This medication can be added onto any surgery or may be included in a surgery package of your choosing and is a great addition for a more comfortable recovery.
Pricing can vary depending on your anatomy and surgical needs. The exact price of your procedure will be determined during your consultation. Financing options are available for patients who qualify. Your patient coordinator will discuss the financing options with you at the time of your consultation.
Frequently Asked Questions
What type of anesthesia is used during tummy tuck surgery?
We offer this procedure under general anesthesia or local sedation. The best option for you can be decided during your consultation. Dr. Guttikonda hand selects his surgery team, including the anesthetists he works with closely. You will get a call from your anesthesia provider the day before your surgery and have their contact information after your procedure for any questions.
When should I undergo a tummy tuck?
You should undergo a tummy tuck once you have reached and maintained your goal weight. We typically recommend that you maintain a stable weight for at least six months before considering surgery, because additional postoperative weight gain or loss can impact your results. A tummy tuck needs to be done a minimum of six months after childbirth. Don’t undergo a tummy tuck if you plan on have children in the future.
What risks are associated with tummy tuck surgery?
Tummy tuck surgery, like all surgical procedures, comes with some minimal risks, the most common of which are bleeding and infection. However, seromas and temporary numbness of the treated area are rare complications. Know that Dr. Guttikonda’s techniques and safe practices in the OR are meant to minimize any of these post-op complications. A patient’s aftercare also plays a huge role in their end result, healing, and risk of complications. Make sure you have someone well-suited to assist you for a week after surgery. If you don’t, talk to your coordinator about setting up post-op nursing care for your first few days after surgery.
How long will my tummy tuck results last?
Tummy tuck is designed to remove skin and fat from your abdominal area permanently. However, future weight gain or weight loss can impact the quality of your results. Dr. Guttikonda recommends a healthy diet and exercise regimen to prevent additional weight gain from occurring.
