ThermiVa treatment is a minimally invasive vaginal rejuvenation procedure for individuals dealing with vaginal dryness, decreased sexual satisfaction, bladder leakage, and skin laxity in the labia and vagina. Moreover, this treatment can also improve the physical appearance of the labia, which can become naturally altered due to age, pregnancy, or childbirth. To give you a better idea about ThermiVa treatment, we have provided some answers to common questions about ThermiVa treatment below.
How long does ThermiVa last?
The length of time that results from ThermiVa treatment varies with each patient according to several different factors. With that being said, many patients find that the results from their ThermiVa treatment last for one year or longer, followed by one or more follow-up treatments to maintain results between nine to 15 months after the initial treatment sessions.
Particular factors that can affect how long a patient’s results from ThermiVa treatment last include genetics, the age of the patient, their hormone levels or balances, and their medical history. Hormones can have a direct impact on skin laxity and other vaginal health concerns.
How does ThermiVa work?
ThermiVa works by delivering radiofrequency (RF) energy to targeted areas of the labia or vagina. The RF energy helps tighten and rejuvenate the vaginal tissues by increasing collagen production through the stimulation of fibroblasts in the skin and mucosa of the treatment area. Fibroblasts are found in every connective tissue in the body and help maintain the structural integrity of those connective tissues through the secretion of collagen proteins. They are also instrumental in the wound healing process.
However, as our bodies age, the fibroblasts in our body produce less collagen, which leads to various issues with the connective tissues in our body, such as skin laxity. In addition to aging, pregnancy and childbirth can also decrease collagen production in the vaginal walls and labia, causing the skin and connective tissue therein to loosen.
As such, ThermiVa treatment effectively tightens the labia and vaginal walls and rejuvenates tissues within the vagina by increasing collagen production. Additional benefits of ThermiVa treatment include decreased dryness, reduced leakage, and increased sexual satisfaction.
The actual procedure for ThermiVa treatment is minimally invasive, pain-free, and requires no downtime, as the patient should be able to return to their daily routine without any complication. During ThermiVa treatment, the provider inserts a small handpiece device that is approximately 0.5” in width and specifically designed with the patient’s comfort in mind. On the tip of the device is an electrode that gently heats the tissue with radiofrequency energy. In total, ThermiVa treatment should take between 30 to 40 minutes to complete.
How often should ThermiVa be done?
The initial protocol for ThermiVa treatment involves three separate treatment sessions over three months, with each treatment spaced one month apart. Since the results of ThermiVa treatment typically last between nine months to one year, follow-up or maintenance treatments are not usually necessary until that time. After initial ThermiVa treatment, maintenance treatments are recommended annually to increase the longevity of your ThermiVa results.
